On June 18, FRD-CODEM will publish its study on the development potential of plant-based concrete in France. 

The study consists of two main, complementary parts:

Part 1:
An overview of the industry, technologies for integrating plant fibers and aggregates, and their ability to address current challenges, as well as an initial cost-carbon comparison of construction systems based on plant-based concrete versus the main traditional construction systems.

Part 2:
Market outlook and short-, medium-, and long-term operational recommendations to support the development of these solutions.

Insulating concrete used as fill or on-site render

Self-supporting precast concrete

Precast structural concrete

Concrete for noise barriers

Fiber-reinforced concrete and similar materials

7th Colloque Fibres Naturelles et Polymères (Natural Fibers and Polymers Conference): September 17 and 18 in Troyes
This conference is organized by APM and FRD-CODEM with the support of the plant fiber industry, key players in the bioeconomy and in plastics and composites. It is a multi-year event that is recognized by both industrial and academic players. The event provides a comprehensive European overview of the latest developments in the use of natural fibers in plastics and composites.

The beginning of 2025 is full of new projects!
The INTERREG France-Wallonie-Vlandereen project was officially launched at the Rencontres Régionales du Bâtiment Durable on March 13, with the aim of mass-marketing bio-sourced solutions in cross-border territories.
The first COPIL of the CHABLER project took place on March 18. The aim of the project is to define the conditions for integrating retted chenevotte for building applications, and to develop characterization tools.

Dylan Bégaud was at Orélans to train local players in the development of the hemp industry in the Centre-Val-de-Loire region, at the invitation of Envirobat Centre and with the support of the DREAL. FRD-CODEM trains players in hemp, the specificities of the field, harvesting, defibration and the various transformations required to obtain different markets. This is based in particular on feedback from different hemp farm models, and on market opportunities. A new basin study after Alsace, Belgium, New Caledonia, South Africa and Canada.

FRD - CODEM, has designed and developed a methodology for analyzing accessible markets in a given region for roofing and envelope insulation materials, and for all building types. This method has enabled Bâtlin, SDEA & Metropole de Strasbourg, and more recently IELO and CERESIA, to define accessible markets for new-build and renovation insulation products based on flax, hemp or chopped straw. This information are key to sizing production facilities and establishing the link between available resources and the market.
