The Technology Resource Center dedicated to ecomaterials and biobased materials

Technology Resource Center ( CRT ), FRD-CODEM supports the development and mass production of bio-based materials and ecomaterials in a wide range of application markets: Building, Transport, Sports and Leisure, Textiles, etc.

FRD-CODEM masters all the stages involved in bringing an idea to operational implementation (TRL 5 to 7): market research, resource availability, eco-design, definition of functional specifications, development of innovative solutions from laboratory to industrial scale, quality management, standards support, end-of-life management...

The multidisciplinary team is supported by 2 technology halls:

  • Based in Troyes, in the Grand-Est region of France, FRDlab enables the development of plant fiber-based solutions: design of customized fibers and semi-finished products, material processability, quality control, resource availability...
  • In Amiens, in the Hauts-de-France region, the BATlab develops and characterizes innovative eco-materials in order to bring them to market. It also aims to raise awareness, mobilize and unite regional players in the field of eco-construction and ecomaterials.

Our vocation and history

Created under the impetus of producers of plant fibers and reinforcements and major players in plant-based chemistry, FRD-CODEM is the 1st French federative industrial structure, bringing together, via its shareholders, over 30% of all national biomass production. Their aim is to contribute to the decarbonization of society, through the use of efficient, sober, renewable or recycled solutions.

Anchored at the heart of the Grand-Est and Hauts-de-France regions, with their high agricultural, forestry and industrial potential, and positioned at the heart of the world-class "Bioeconomy For Change" competitiveness cluster, FRD-CODEM is the reference structure for the biobased materials sector, particularly those based on plant fibers.

FRD-CODEM was born of the merger in 2023 of two technical centers, FRD and CODEM, and carries on the vocation begun in 2008, with a strengthened and renewed ambition.

"Service and testing", "Innovation", "R&D projects", "tailor-made", "responsiveness", "professionalism", "confidentiality", "continuous improvement of skills and equipment" are the key words that characterize the day-to-day activity of our CRT .

More broadly, we fulfil a mission of general interest by providing direct assistance to companies, particularly SMEs, in our sectors and regions.

FRD-CODEM: CRT since 2019

Awarded by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Centre de Ressources Technologique (CRT) label is a French quality label. It qualifies structures providing technological support to companies, particularly SME-SMI. They support companies in their innovation and development projects, from diagnostics to technological services, "from idea to industrialization".

This label enables FRD-CODEM to be accredited as a Research Tax Credit (CIR), enabling its customers to benefit from a tax deduction of 30% of eligible expenses.

A CRT offers companies :

  • Catalog services (analyses, tests, etc.)
  • Customized services (feasibility studies, design assistance, help in choosing and setting up prototyping technology, etc.)
  • Research services
  • Support and assistance (transfer, project management, business strategy, regulations, monitoring, etc.)
  • Links to a network of skills (links between companies and CRTs or university laboratories for collaborative projects, etc.).
  • Technological dissemination and communication initiatives
  • General or company-specific training programs.

The values of a CRT are :

  • Commitment Commitment: implementation of all necessary resources and skills to achieve the desired results (with the support of a partner capable of providing the service).
  • Professionalism and quality To provide its customers with services that meet the highest standards of quality and professionalism. in the performance of services, particularly in terms of results, cost, deadlines and confidentiality.
  • Confidentiality CRTs undertake to keep the subject, the work and the results of all work secret under a confidentiality agreement.
  • Innovation and technology watch Innovation and technology watch: CRTs are committed to renewing and enriching their technological heritage so as to provide their customers with constantly updated skills.
